Oba kurzy probíhají vždy v pondělí a ve středu a jsou určeny jak studentům FSU, tak i všem studentům vysoké školy CEVRO Institut.

The Emerging Democracies of Central Europe

Course Description:
This course examines the new democracies of Central and Eastern Europe after the collapse of communism in 1989. In particular, we will focus on the development of Poland, Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic and Slovakia respectively), Hungary and other countries of the region. Though history of each state will be discussed, the main emphasis will be on the transition to democracy and different types of obstacles faced by all emerging democracies. The course focuses on the democratization and consolidation processes.

The European Union in Central Europe

Course Description:
This course examines the evolution and development of the European Union. The first part of the course will focus on the history of the EU. Our interest will be in understanding how and why it emerged in Western Europe and why it continues to expand and deepen. We will also examine the current institutional structure of the EU in order to better understand its unique politics. The second section of the course will offer an in depth analysis of EU expansion into Central Europe. We will examine how the inclusion of new member states has altered the politics of the European Union and how it has affected the domestic politics of the Central European states.
