The new president and vice-presidents of CEVRO Institut were appointed

The managing board of CEVRO Institute appointed Prof. Josef Šíma the new president of the college on September 1, 2009.

The managing board also expressed its thanks to Prof. Miroslav Novák, the former president, for his work and his contribution to the development of CEVRO Institute. Prof. Novák will further devote his effort to the development of the college in the function of the director of the political science and international relations study program.

The managing board also re-appointed Dr. Petr Kolář vice-president for study affairs for the next term of office. A new academic function was set up by the managing board: the vice-president for development. Dr. Ladislav Mrklas was appointed the first vice-president for development. The term of office for the president and both vice-presidents began on September 1, 2009.


Professor Ing. Josef Šíma, Ph.D. graduated from the University of Economics in Prague, where he obtained Ph.D. degree in 2001. In 2005 he became associate professor, and in 2008, he became full professor of economics. Until September 2009, he was the head of the Department of Institutional Economics at the University of Economics in Prague.

He is editor-in-chief of the scientific journal New Perspectives on Political Economy. He is also a member of editorial boards of the Journal of Libertarian Studies, Libertarian Papers and Procesos de Mercado; president of Prague Conference on Political Economy and adjunct faculty member at the Ludwig von Mises Institutee, Auburn, USA.

Josef Šíma was the head of the collective of translators of two monumental books on political economy of the 20th century: Human Action by Ludwig von Mieses, and Man, Economy and State by Murray Rothbard. In total he translated more than ten books. He is author of many articles in Czech and foreign academic and popular journals. He is co-author of text-books and author of books called Trh v čase a prostoru (Market in Time and Space, 2000), and Ekonomie a právo: úvod do logiky společenského jednání (Economics and Law: An Introduction to the Logics of Social Action, 2004).

Josef Šíma has been visiting or guest professor at numerous American and European universities. In the Czech Republic he has been lecturing courses related to economics and economic policy at University of New York, Prague, where he was awarded "Outstanding Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence" in 2003.

Josef Šíma is also director for publications of the Liberalní institute of Prague. When CEVRO Institute scholars were preparing the college’s degree programs, Prof. Šíma was taking part in creating profiles of economic courses. Since 2006 he has been a member of the CEVRO Institute’s Department of Economics and Management.

JUDr. PhDr. Petr Kolář, Ph.D. gained his degree in political science, law and theology at Charles University in Prague and Katholische Universität Eichstätt. He is author of many publications related to law and political science. Since 1996 he has been working as a professional advisor of the office of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. Since 2006 he has been the vice-president of CEVRO Institut.

Mgr. Ladislav Mrklas, Ph.D. gained his degree in political science at Charles University in Prague. He is author of many publications on Czech and Czechoslovak parliamentarism. In 2002 he became the director of CEVRO - Liberal-conservative academy. Since 2006 he has been the member of the managing board of CEVRO Institut.
